About

Artist David W. Lowrie began cutting stone at the age of seven under the guidance of Charles Roubique. This remained an interest through high school where he began a lifelong passion of gem engraving. After graduation David began cutting stones for the Ulibarri brothers in Golden, Colorado. He started off in the early 70’s managing the Ulibarri brothers’ store, cutting stones, and performing restoration work.

David has worked for over 30 years as a master jeweler and gem engraver in the retail jewelry industry, specializing in custom work and museum restoration. In the late 1990’s David started his own company, David Lowrie Stonesmith. Working out of his private studio has allowed him the freedom to dedicate his full attention to his passion for fanciful gem engraving.

Today David’s pieces include highly technical gem cutting combined with the freehand art of gem engraving. He now sets his elegant and unusual hand-sculpted pieces in his own one-of-a-kind jewelry creations for competition, gallery sales and personal collectors who want a truly unique design.
